Dr Azila Talit Reisenberger is an award winning author who has had poetry and short stories published in Israel, South Africa, USA, UK and Germany. Two of her plays: "Adam's Apple" and "The Loving Father", were staged at the International Grahamstown Arts Festival.

She Heads the Hebrew section in the School of Languages and Literature at the University of Cape Town, and is renowned for her passionate and insightful lectures and articles on gender issues and feminist Theology in the Bible on the one hand and on Minority Literature on the other.

Since 1989 she has served as the Spiritual Leader of Temple Hillel, a Progressive Jewish Community in East London, South Africa leading communal prayers during festivals as well as conducting Rites-of-Passage celebrations, such as Naming babies, Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Weddings.

Azila is a registered Marriage Officer and Civil Union officiant and conducts unique inter-denominational marriage ceremonies. She also offers marriage and family counselling.

Apart from her creative, academic and spiritual activities Azila is also a deeply involved social activist; being associated with Women Demand Dignity – whose mission is to raise awareness and curb violence against women and children in South Africa. She is active in Inter-faith organisations in Cape Town, and serves as the Chair of the Hebrew Department in the Western Province Zionist Council.

Currently she lives in Cape Town, South Africa, with her husband and three adult children.
